Omorrobay's Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather Giuseppi Omorrabay was the
founding father of what is now known as Morro Bay California. Back in the 16th
Century the area was known as Omorrobay. As time went on and California was
overrun with drunken gold seekers the name Omorrobay was mysteriously changed to
Morro Bay. Legend has it the famous John Sutter himself (owner of Sutter's Mill
where gold was discovered in 1848) misspelled Omorrobay as Morro Bay when he
sketched out a map for John C. Fremont. Because of this error, Fremont noted the
incorrect spelling of Morro Bay on his Master Map, thus inscribing this mistaken
name forever in the annals of California’s history.
